So the snow’s back and as before London seems to slow down to a miserable pace. We saw a little snow last Wednesday and Thursday, in fact I played some 5-a-side football for the first time in a couple of months in it (the knee held up pretty well) but it didn’t effect things too badly. I was off Thursday, but took the bus to work on Friday, to be safe. Saturday and Sunday are okay for me to drive in, so I avoided public transport over the weekend.
Yesterday morning, I checked weather, no snow until 4pm… the time I finish work, so I took the chance. At 4pm, it did start snowing, but wasn’t too bad. Unfortuntely, I got stuck in a meeting until gone half past but all looked okay before I went to get changed. In the space of about 10 minutes though, it started to settle and suddenly there was half an inch of snow.
With my wheels struggling to gain any traction I parked up. I walked to the main road and then noticed it was just water really, so after something to eat, I tried again. Traffic was pretty stationary, I did a little filtering round the outside until at one point I span through about 120 degrees, on the other side of the road. Of course, I stayed upright but it was enough to pursuad me to give up on the bike. After much discussion with the nice guy at the BP garage and next doors security guard, they let me put my bike in their secure parking.
I walked about a mile and a half (which wasn’t nice with a sore knee) and then I got on the very slow moving bus. I finally got home around 9:15pm… which from what I hear is far from the longest trip home today. I now just need to pray for some nice sunshine tomorrow so I can get my bike home and get it back under the covers!
